DENVER—State lawmakers have approved a bill asking voters to create a rainy day fund for the state budget.
Rep. Cory Gardner, a Republican from Yuma, told the House Finance Committee that the state could have avoided some of its current budget problems if money had been set aside.
He said voters need to give lawmakers the flexibility to deal with economic crises.
The committee approved Gardner’s plan on Wednesday and sent it to appropriations.
