GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Colorado State Patrol has identified the surviving driver of an accident on the Western Slope that left a truck driver dead.
Trooper Gilbert Mares says 29-year-old Jeremy S. Ronquillo of Lakewood was driving a Ford F550 pickup that was struck head-on Monday by a semitrailer on Colorado 139, about 18 miles north of Loma. The pickup was hauling a trailer that was carrying up to 600 gallons of hydrochloric acid.
The driver of the semitruck hauling coal was killed. Family members have identified him as 59-year-old Keith Shearwood.
Mares says the southbound semi crossed into the northbound lanes and rolled on its side before hitting the pickup.
Ronquillo suffered moderate injuries and was treated near the scene.
