An 11-month-old child hit by her allegedly drunk grandfather as he backed his Jeep out of a garage in Grand Junction has died.
The girl, Paytonn Elizabeth Garlick, died of head injuries, according to Dean Havlik, the Mesa County coroner.
She was hit Saturday night by Anthony Woods, 50, who had been working on the 1982 Jeep in the garage at a home in the 2700 block of Unaweep Avenue.
Paytonn died Monday.
According to the State Patrol, Woods was backing out of the garage and the child walked into the path of the Jeep.
The girl was unconscious and not breathing when emergency workers arrived.
State Patrol Sgt. John Hahn said Woods was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, vehicular assault and careless driving resulting in injury.
