Coloradans recently stormed the East Coast at two sites and brought their high-altitude excellence in track and field to both. Among top local finishers, Smoky Hill’s Chase Cooper won the pole vault (16 feet) and Falcon’s Wes Rickman (9 minutes, 1.92 seconds) and Kevin Johnson (9:06.24) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 2-mile run at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. Each earned All-America status. In New York City at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships, Overland’s Jeremy Rankin, injured for much of the 2008 outdoor season, won the 60-meter dash (6.71). He also owns the meet’s sophomore (6.67) and junior (6.64) marks.
