The owner of Johnson Diary in Eaton has been charged by the Weld County district attorney with three counts of filing false tax returns.
The counts against John D. Johnson, 49, were filed following an 11-month investigation by the Colorado Department of Revenue, according to Jennifer Finch, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
The counts allege that Johnson filed false tax returns in the years 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The charges are felonies. If convicted of all three counts, Johnson could face up to nine years in prison, said Finch.
The charges allege that Johnson “unlawfully, feloniously and willfully” submitted tax returns that he knew were not truthful.
Johnson is to be arraigned at 9 a.m. April 16 in Weld County court.
