LONDON — A British auction house says it has sold a stash of rare wines hidden away during the German occupation of the Channel Islands in World War II for nearly $70,000.
Vintner Bucktrout & Co. placed the wines in a secret chamber between its shop and a loading area when the islands between France and England were overrun by Nazi forces.
The wines included eight bottles of Mouton Rothschild 1928 and two bottles of Chateau d’Yquem sauternes from 1934.
