AURORA — Aurora Water has reached a settlement with the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District that clears the way for the city to bolster its reserves by 10,000 acre-feet.
The conservancy district had sued in federal court to block Aurora’s 40-year deal with the federal Bureau of Reclamation to store water in Lake Pueblo. Aurora agreed to pay $2 million toward water projects in the Lower Arkansas Valley, Aurora Water spokesman Greg Baker said.
The Bureau of Reclamation also agreed that about $46 million in fees paid by Aurora during the lease would go to the proposed $300 million Arkansas Valley Conduit project, Baker said.
