Naturally, the ginormous State Champion Burger — 3 pounds of ground beef, a pound and a half of bun, half a tomato, half an onion, eight slices of cheese and half a head of lettuce — has its own Facebook page. Cost: $29.99, or free if one person eats the whole thing, plus 12 ounces of fries. Nobody’s managed that yet.
Taking the plunge
Darren “Professor Splash” Taylor of Denver aims to set a Guinness World Record. Dive-in movie.
Darren Taylor’s unique talent: launching himself from a high-dive platform into an inflated kiddie pool. In Tokyo last December, he broke his own Guinness World Record with a dive from a platform 35 feet and 7 inches high. This weekend, Taylor aims to break that record with a dive in Pasadena, Calif. The results will be shown in June on Discovery Channel’s “Time Warp.”
Hawking Wine
Burning Hawk Napa Valley Red or Chardonnay, $30 per bottle
Napa time.
This philanthropic California winery chose the Fort Collins-based Rocky Mountain Raptor Program to receive 10 percent of its March wine sales. The name on the label refers to a hawk that perished in a high-voltage accident similar to the circumstances that injured a golden eagle last year in Colorado. After surgery, the eagle is healing and learning to fly again.
