GREELEY, Colo.—A century-old sawed-off shotgun bearing Weld County tags has turned up mysteriously to the sheriff’s department, and authorities aren’t sure what to do with it.
The rusty gun arrived from a California collector recently. It bears a Weld sheriff’s evidence tag, dated 1942, and the name C.S. Chambers.
A note on the tag says it was taken from Chambers when an officer “explained to him what the law was regulating firearms.”
County authorities have no records of the man or why his shotgun was taken. Sheriff’s office authorities say they’ll put the old shotgun in storage and may display it later.
