BOULDER — Police are looking for four men who witnesses say threw rocks at a fraternity house on University Hill early Sunday and then got into a fight with one of the fraternity members.

Officers were called to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, 1146 12th St., about 1:13 a.m. on a report of a “disturbance,” and Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said they found a man with blood dripping from his head.

Paramedics responded to the scene and stitched up Andrew Smith’s wound, Huntley said. Smith, 22, told police that a fight occurred after he saw four college-aged men throwing rocks at statues outside the fraternity house. Smith said he came out on the porch to confront the men, and Huntley said they made derogatory comments about Smith being a “frat boy.”

Smith told officers that he got upset and “overreacted” and challenged them to fight, Huntley said. One of the men took a swing but missed, she said, and they ended up wrestling on the ground. The fight ended shortly, and Huntley said that Smith told officers he thought he hit his head on the bumper of a car.

Other witnesses, however, said the men had beer bottles and hit Smith with one of them, Huntley said. Police are looking for the suspects but have vague descriptions.

If police find them, the men could face second-degree assault charges, Huntley said.
