Led by Patrick Grady’s 12th-place finish, the University of Colorado men’s golf team bested two teams ranked in the top 30 nationally in earning fourth place at the Oregon Duck Invitational on Tuesday in Eugene.
Grady carded a 2-over-par 74 in the third round Tuesday to finish at 4-over 220 on the 7,033-yard, Eugene Country Club course. Washington’s Nick Taylor earned medalist honors with a 211, and the No. 8- ranked Huskies topped the team standings. No. 24 Cal-Davis finished fifth, with No. 29 Pepperdine ending at sixth.
UNC blows another late lead.
DJ Belfonte’s two-run triple highlighted a four-run eighth inning that sent Nebraska to a 14-13 victory over Northern Colorado.
Joe Broekmeier (1-0) and Mike Nesseth combined for two innings of no-hit relief. Nesseth, who struck out two in the ninth, earned his first save.
Northern Colorado’s James Quisenberry allowed nine runs on 12 hits over six innings, but Joe Wilman (1-2) took the loss after recording just one out in the eighth. The Bears led by seven runs at one point.
Kevin Sandberg and Phil Santucci homered for the Bears (7-15), with Santucci driving in four runs. Tyler Farst homered, doubled and had five RBIs for the Huskers (15-7-1).
