A mass-casualty exercise involving five fire departments, the Boulder Sheriff’s Department, the Boulder Emergency Squad, numerous ambulance companies and two evacuation helicopters will be held this Saturday in Jamestown at Jamestown Park.

The nature of the simulated emergency is being kept secret so the actions taken by first-responders to the situation can be evaluated.

The responders will be notified about 9 a.m. as to the type of emergency that is involved and the exercise will last approximately three hours.

During that time, an estimated 110 people will be involved including numerous “victims”.

According to the Boulder Sheriff’s Department, the event has several goals:

To test the response of the agencies involved.

To measure the degree of inter-agency cooperation.

To evaluate how “victims” are medically triaged and tracked to local medical facilities.

The exercise is being funded in part by the North Central Grants.
