More than 100 dogs rescued from an alleged puppy mill in rural Arkansas will soon call Denver home.
The first 15 in the rescue operation will arrive in Colorado this afternoon, flown into Centennial Airport by a volunteer pilot and organization.
The dogs, including some puppies, will be taken to the Denver Dumb Friends League, which hopes to adopt them out, according to a media release from the league.
More than 300 dogs and 35 miniature horses were rescued Monday from an elderly couple’s 82-acre property in Arkansas, the league said.
Three other Colorado shelters — the Larimer Humane Society, the Humane Society of Pikes Peak Region and the Humane Society of Boulder Valley — also are planning to help with the large-scale operation.
After the first dogs arrive this afternoon, another group of about 100 is expected to follow late tonight.
Dogs of various breeds, including Pomeranians, Yorkshire terriers, miniature collies, poodles, spaniels and pugs, were among those rescued.
