The timeline for Colorado companies to be reimbursed if they are certified as organic has been extended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The reimbursement is available to producers and handlers of organic agricultural products for costs incurred in obtaining organic certification.

The new time frame is Oct. 1, 2007, to Sept. 30, 2009, a year longer than originally proposed. Reimbursements are available for each year the producer received certification and incurred related costs.

There are about 185 Colorado facilities that are certified organic. So far, more than $27,300 has been returned to Colorado producers under the reimbursement process.
