Bossier-Shreveport got a first-period goal from Kevin Cooper, then outlasted a furious charge by the Rocky Mountain Rage in winning a Central Hockey League playoff series-deciding third game 5-3 in Louisiana on Thursday. The loss ends the Rage’s season.

Spinney still a go.

Despite frigid temperatures driven by wind and snow, the planned opening of Spinney Mountain Reservoir will go off as scheduled at 6:22 a.m. today, one half-hour before sunrise. State Parks manager Kevin Tobey said anglers should be alert to single-digit temperature; Tobey reported that toward sunset Thursday the popular impoundment still was free of ice. This is the second-earliest opener since March 24, 1999. Colorado State Parks began operating the lake in the early 1990s. Nearby Elevenmile Reservoir, also operated by the parks system, is open to fishing from shore. Charlie Meyers, The Denver Post
