Despite frigid temperatures driven by wind and snow, the planned opening of Spinney Mountain Reservoir will go off as scheduled at 6:22 a.m. today, one half-hour before sunrise.
State Parks manager Kevin Tobey said anglers should be alert to single-digit temperature; Tobey reported that toward sunset Thursday the popular impoundment still was free of ice.
This is the second earliest opener since a March 24, 1999. Colorado State Parks began operating the lake in the early 1990s.
Nearby Elevenmile Reservoir, also operated by the parks system, is open to fishing from shore.
