SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Jozy Altidore started the comeback in the 77th minute, and Frankie Hejduk scored the tying goal in the 88th as the United States rallied for a 2-2 draw with El Salvador in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday night.
Ranked just 106th in the world, El Salvador built a 2-0 lead against the No. 17 Americans before a boisterous crowd of 30,500 on goals by Eliseo Quintanilla in the 15th minute and Crisian Castillo in the 72nd.

• Diego Maradona won his first official match as Argentina’s coach, a 4-0 win over visiting Venezuela.
• Mexico ended a four-game winless streak in qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica.

Three days after surgery to fix his broken right collarbone, Lance Armstrong posted a photo of himself training on his Twitter feed.
The 37-year-old American cyclist was expected to resume training almost immediately to meet his goal of racing in the Giro d’Italia, which begins May 9.
• Victoria Pendleton edged Willy Kanis of the Netherlands to win the women’s individual sprint title at the track world championships in Pruszkow, Poland.
Also, the Danish duo of Alex Rasmussen and Michael Morkov won the men’s madison, and Josephine Tomic of Australia won the women’s inaugural omnium.
