PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—U.S. Northern Command says it’s bolstering its response to flooding in the Midwest by deploying six helicopters to North Dakota.
The helicopters being sent to Grand Forks Air Force Base could be used for search and rescue, moving supplies, and moving evacuees or emergency responders.
Northern Command said Saturday that it’s also deploying planners to help with potential search and rescue operations.
U.S. Northern Command was established after the 2001 terrorist attacks and is responsible for homeland defense. It also supports civil authorities.
