Getting your player ready...

It really wasn’t anything new for Brett Green.

The senior, who will play next season at Colorado School of Mines, wasn’t concerned with justifying his dominance of Class 3A while at Peyton.

No, Green had played with or against many of Saturday’s players in The Show all-star games at the Pepsi Center sponsored by the Nuggets and Gold Crown Foundation.

So his 22 points, many generated from his considerable shooting range, weren’t a surprise in the White’s 95-84 decision of the Blue.

The gathering of Colorado’s top players not only showcased the top players, but underlined Green’s prowess no matter the level.

“There was good talent here, it’s just fun playing with people who are really good,” the 6-foot-4 Green said.

“I just come out and play. I’ve played with these kids before and just want to play my game. I’ve played against them and gone against different states. In the end, it’s just playing basketball.”

And play they did — there were barrages of points, dunks, blocked shots, steals and sweet passes in front of the estimated 2,400 fans who also watched the girls game.

Game MVP Travis Shepherd of Fairview paced the White with 24 points. In fact, Fairview coach Frank Lee, who headed the White, had an interesting situation — another player of his, Jonathan Morse, was added to the Blue roster after East’s DaVaughn Thornton, a University of Colorado football signee, opted to pass on the game.

Otherwise, Pierce Hornung of the White, a Ralston Valley senior headed to Colorado State, turned in one of the plays of the game by one-handing a pass behind him that he turned into a layup after swooping in from the left side.

Hornung also got to go one-on-one against Denver Lutheran’s Trevor Williams, who was on the Blue side and also will attend CSU. They are two of only three Division I signees among the past season’s boys.

“All of this went so fast,” Hornung said of his prep career. “But I’m ready for the next one.”
