LAYTON, Utah — Davis County commissioners say they didn’t know an adult fitness event approved for a county facility was actually a pole- dancing competition.

The Miss Pole Dance Utah competition is scheduled for May at the Davis Conference Center.

Commissioners meet monthly with center officials to discuss upcoming events.

“I don’t recall this was discussed at all,” Commissioner Bret Millburn said.

Millburn said his review of a website for the competition leaves him feeling uncomfortable with the way the event is advertised. The site refers to the event as “Fetish, Battle of the Pole Dancers.”

“I have an issue with how it is portrayed on its website,” Millburn said. “It doesn’t show me any sort of athletic component to it. It doesn’t speak fitness. This speaks something else.”

Center general manager Scott Lunt said the event was pitched as an athletic-type competition.

Event co-sponsor Meagan Burroughs said the competition is fitness-focused, not adult entertainment. She said the event will not feature sexually provocative moves.
