Anglers in southwest Colorado interested in fishing and aquatic issues are invited to attend a Colorado Division of Wildlife anglers roundtable on April 7 in Pagosa Springs. The meeting, 6:30-8:30 p.m., will be held at the Pagosa Lakes subdivision Vista Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave., on the west side of Pagosa Springs, just off Vista Boulevard.

Aquatic staff from DOW will be on hand to talk about what’s happening in the San Juan River and Upper Dolores River basins. This is an informal meeting, and the public is invited to ask questions and comment on fishing and aquatic issues.

Tarryall Reservoir will open for fishing May 1. Another good season is forecast for anglers fishing for rainbow trout, Snake River cutthroat trout, brown trout and northern pike.

Trailered watercraft will be allowed on Tarryall from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday-Monday. The north boat ramp off of Park County Road 77 will be open.

Hand-launched boats will be allowed at all times.

Colorado anglers are reminded that fishing licenses for the coming season must be renewed by Wednesday. In addition, senior anglers not normally required to purchase a license now must possess a habitat stamp.

Big-game talks.

Colorado Division of Wildlife managers and biologists in the Gunnison area will discuss proposed license numbers for the 2009 hunting season for deer and elk Tuesday at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds in the Fred Field Western Heritage Center, 275 S. Spruce.

Information on Game Management Units 54, 55 and 551 will be presented from 10 a.m. until noon. GMUs 66 and 67 will be discussed starting at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend and provide comments on the recommendations.

More talks.

The Division of Wildlife will hold a public meeting Thursday to discuss big-game management and license allocation for the 2009 hunting seasons in the Game Management Units administered by the Montrose Service Center.

The meeting will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Centennial Meeting Room in the Montrose City Hall Annex, at South First and Uncompahgre streets.

Wildlife managers will talk about the status and health of deer and elk in game management units 60, 61, 62, 64, 65 and 70. DOW representatives will also present proposed license numbers for next fall’s hunting season.
