ManiaTV — the cutting-edge Web-video company created in Denver — has gone dark.

Trade publication Media Week reported that Mania TV’s staff was informed this month that the company was closing.

It was launched in Denver in 2004 to offer live and user-generated comedy, music and games over the Internet.

In January 2008, ManiaTV laid off a quarter of its staff and moved its operations from a north Denver warehouse to Los Angeles, which chief executive Peter Hoskins said was part of the company’s growth strategy.

ManiaTV officials did not reply to an e-mail seeking comment about the shutdown.

Its website, , hints of a revival. “ManiaTV 1.0 is no more,” the site says. “Watch this space for the 2.0.”

At its peak, the firm employed more than 70 and featured a live show by former MTV comedian Tom Green.

In November, ManiaTV put itself up for sale. In February, Hoskins said he had laid off 15 of the remaining 33 employees and was reviewing “a few solid offers” to buy the business.
