The breakaway congregation of former Episcopalians ordered to vacate Grace Church and St. Stephen’s Parish in Colorado Springs will move Friday to a new house of worship, St. George’s Anglican Church.
The newly organized parish will take root in the former Renaissance Academy at 2760 Fieldstone Road in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
The 5-acre campus has worship, classroom and office space, and it involves significantly less overhead expense, said the Rev. Alan R. Crippen II.
“We are moving to a beautiful location situated among rocks, not unlike where Jesus’ tomb was located, and like him, we will be resurrected to new life as a congregation, with a new name, and a new future,” the Rev. Don Armstrong said in a written statement.
In a judge’s ruling last week, the Episcopalian-turned-Anglican congregation lost its historic buildings downtown on Tejon Street to the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado. The diocese argued in court that although the congregation could leave the church, it couldn’t keep the buildings.
