COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A breakaway Episcopal congregation that lost its bid to keep a Colorado Springs church building has reorganized as St. George’s Anglican Church.
The former members of Grace Church and St. Stephen’s left the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado and the national Episcopal group in March 2007 over theological differences.
Last week, a judge ruled the church building belongs to the Diocese of Colorado, not the breakaway group.
The Rev. Alan R. Crippen, spokesman for the breakaway parish, says the group has about 1,200 members, and 500 of them regularly show up for services.
Crippen says the group will meet at the former site of the Renaissance Academy, a private school. He says the site has worship space, classrooms and offices on a 5-acre campus.
