A 91-year-old motorist who may have suffered a medical emergency was killed Monday when he drove off Colorado 92, about a mile west of Hotchkiss.
The Colorado State Patrol said that Emery White of Hotchkiss was leaving a residence on the north side of the highway when his car traveled across the highway and ran off the south side of the road.
According to Trooper Eric Carlton, the vehicle slammed into a ditch, went through a fence and stopped after slamming into a tree. The force of the wreck caused the air bags on both the driver and passenger sides to inflate.
White was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carlton said there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved, but investigators suspect White suffered some type of medical emergency, which contributed to the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
