A dusting of snow could face morning work commuters today, but snow and slush are almost a certainty for the drive home, according to the National Weather Service office in Boulder.
Forecasters say there is a slight chance of snow in Denver before 9 a.m., but chances increase — up to 80 percent — by the afternoon, with accumulations up to six inches in parts of the metro region and eight inches in the foothills.
Snow is expected to continue into the evening, with another inch possible until midnight, according to the forecast.
Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 50, followed by a high near 60 on Friday.
The metro region has a slight chance of snow Friday night and Saturday, with temperatures cooling into the 20s Friday night. The high temperature Saturday in Denver will remain in the upper 30s, forecasters said.
Highs should be around 50 degrees on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, according to the long-range forecast.
A winter weather advisory is in effect in the High Country until midnight Wednesday, bringing as much as 20 inches of new snow to higher elevations.
Snow is expected fall at the rate of more than a half-inch an hour with wind gusts up to 50 mph on mountain passes, according to the National Weather Service.
Another storm could sweep across northeast and north-central Colorado Saturday, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds.
