LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Investigators are looking into the cause of a crane accident at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood that injured a construction worker.

West Metro Fire Protection District spokeswoman Cindy Matthews says the accident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at a new St. Anthony Hospital that is under construction at the center.

U.S. Geological Survey employee Jeff McCoy told The Denver Post he was eating lunch and watching the construction when the crane collapsed and twisted while lifting a beam.

Matthews says an ambulance was dispatched to the construction site, but the injured worker had already driven himself to a nearby hospital.

The worker’s name and condition were not immediately available.
