A citywide curfew for youths will begin Friday and last through Sept. 27, the Denver Police Department announced Wednesday.

The curfew requires that those 17 and younger be off the streets Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 5 a.m.

Sunday through Thursday nights, the curfew is from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, violators will be ticketed and taken to the SafeNite Curfew site at Denver’s District 1 police station, 1311 W. 46th Ave. There they will be processed, interviewed and released to a parent or guardian.

Parents can be cited for allowing their children to violate the ordinance. Children can be out after curfew if with a parent, with an adult with written authorization or if heading directly to or from work.

Those picked up for curfew violations Monday through Thursday will be issued tickets and expected to show up in court.
