Denver Post staff writer Jon E. Yunt looks ahead at this weekend’s action in high school sports:

BASEBALL

Rocky Mountain gets schooled; look out

The rest of the Front Range League would like to thank ThunderRidge’s baseball team for agitating the two- time defending Class 5A champions Tuesday. The visiting Grizzlies 10-run-ruled the Lobos 16-6, and now Rocky goes into league play just slightly upset. The first victim — er, opponent — could be today, when the Lobos meet Monarch in Louisville. The Coyotes are fresh off a trip to Florida.

GIRLS SOCCER

Look who’s No. 1

The Class 3A rankings in girls soccer are generally reserved for the Metropolitan League. No team outside the league this decade has been able to win a state title, and only St. Mary’s the last two seasons has kept the championship game from being an all-Metro League affair. That being said, the top three spots in The Denver Post’s 3A poll belong to nonmetro teams. In the top spot is The Classical Academy, and the Titans travel to Denver (well, Highlands Ranch) on Monday to take on No. 8 Denver Christian at 4 p.m. St. Mary’s and Alexander Dawson occupy the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.

BOYS LACROSSE

Unblemished Eagles

Heritage has looked good to start the season, 6-0 to be exact, and a victory against Cherry Creek the last time out has the Eagles feeling pretty good about themselves. On Friday at 5:30 p.m., Heritage will again look to stay perfect against South Suburban League foe Regis.
