Josh Sims returned to the Colorado Mammoth on Wednesday after the National Lacrosse League team lured the former all-star out of retirement.
Sims, a transition player who retired before this season, played his entire career with the Mammoth. He compiled 179 points (81 goals, 98 assists) in 99 regular- season games and 22 points in the playoffs. To fit Sims on its roster, Colorado deactivated Tim Booth.
Bronc star Mortensen gets Hall entry.
Montana saddle bronc star Dan Mortensen will be inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs on July 11 in a six-member class. The seven-time world champion from Billings, Mont., will be inducted along with the late Leonard Ward, the 1934 Triple Crown winner, of Talent, Ore.; bull rider Ted Nuce of Stephenville, Texas; steer roper Walt Arnold of Silverton, Texas; late stock contractor Erv Korkow of Canning, S.D.; and all-around hand Ace Berry of Oakdale, Calif.
Metro State’s Wagstaff honored.
The Division II Bulletin named Metro State men’s basketball player Jesse Wagstaff to its All-America second team. Wagstaff was named to the Daktronics D-II third team.
Zabala is Golden Gloves champ.
John Zabala’s three- round decision over Nathaniel Hicks in the 152-pound division netted him a Colorado Golden Gloves boxing title and top honors in the open division Sunday at Mile High Event Center in Commerce City. Arvada’s Zabala, who fights for the Backyard Brawlers, won by points over Hicks, of the World Class Athlete Program. Zabala is the defending National Junior Golden Gloves champion in the 16-year-old division.
