A man and woman were in their bed asleep in a Firestone home when the woman’s ex-husband started blasting away with a .12-gauge shotgun, authorities have determined.
Police believe that 47-year- old Michael Acker first shot and killed Michael Federico, 38, his ex-wife’s boyfriend, in the head once or twice at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, said Weld County Deputy Coroner Chris Robillard.
Acker then fatally shot his ex-wife, Sharla Pierce, 41, in the arms, torso and neck, an autopsy showed.
SWAT officers waited nearly four hours before obtaining a search warrant and entering the home. After shooting Federico and Pierce, Acker fatally shot himself. The Denver Post
