LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Barbie is making her Kentucky Derby entrance in style.
Churchill Downs said Thursday it’s teaming with toymaker Mattel to create the Kentucky Derby Barbie doll.
The doll will be dressed in a floral sun dress, a faux pearl necklace and spring sandals, topped with an oversized white hat with flower accents — fitting for an event where horse racing and fashion flourish.
“This is a great project that brings together two iconic American brands in a very special way,” said Casey Cook, senior director of marketing and licensing for Churchill Downs Inc.
Churchill and Mattel will also give Barbie collectors a chance to own their own life-size Kentucky Derby Barbie replica hat.
Milliner Christine A. Moore will create up to 135 replica hats to commemorate the 135th Derby and the Derby Barbie.
Proceeds will benefit several charities.
The 135th running of the Derby is set for May 2 at the famed Louisville track.
