A suspect wanted in a Denver shooting was captured early this morning by police. He was hiding in an attic.
The suspect, Elijah J. Crumpton, 19, is wanted for attempted murder, said Sonny Jackson, A Denver Police Department spokesman. Crumpton is No. 21 on the “Crime Stoppers” list of the state’s “50 Most Wanted.”
Police received a tip that Crumpton was at a home on the 3200 block of Cherry Street, Jackson said.
Officers arrived at the house at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and a woman came out of the home but Crumpton refused to come out, Jackson said.
A negotiator was called in but Crumpton didn’t cooperate, Jackson said.
At about 4:30 a.m. police used tear gas in the home in an attempt to stir him. Crumpton still did not come out and police searched the home but didn’t find him.
Tear gas was used in the attic of the home, Crumpton was flushed out and arrested, Jackson said.
The woman at the home, who was not identified, was arrested on a drug charge, Jackson said.
