GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—District Attorney Martin Beeson has concluded his investigation into allegations of misconduct by Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario over a romantic relationship with a jail officer.

Beeson says he forwarded his findings to District Attorney Mark Hurlbert of Eagle for review. He says he won’t comment on his findings until after the case is reviewed and returned. He didn’t speculate on how long that could take.

Beeson says sending investigations out for review isn’t “typical protocol” for internal investigations, but he felt further review in this case was warranted.

The investigation was prompted by a claim in an unsigned e-mail that the jail officer was promoted over better-qualified candidates.

Vallario has said the woman’s promotions were based on merit and he’s confident he’ll be exonerated.
