DENVER—Denver police have arrested a suspect in an 11-year-old gunpoint sexual assault after an investigation by detectives in a cold case project.
Prosecutors said Thursday 56-year-old David Lee Mackey was arrested on charges of sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault. He was being held under $100,000 bail.
Mackey hasn’t entered a plea and it’s not known if he has an attorney.
He is accused of breaking into a Denver home in January 1998 and sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman at gunpoint.
No suspect was identified at the time, but the case was reviewed as part of the police cold case project. Prosecutors didn’t say what led investigators to suspect Mackey, and a prosecutor’s spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
