ATLANTA — Georgia hired Nevada’s Mark Fox on Thursday to replace Dennis Felton as its basketball coach.
Fox led Nevada to a 21-13 record this season. The hire comes after Georgia was unable to hire Mike Anderson, who instead agreed to a new deal at Missouri on Tuesday.
• Tim Floyd decided to stay on at Southern California, spurning an offer to become Arizona’s coach.
• Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl agreed to a renegotiated six-year contract hours after reports surfaced that Memphis wanted him to replace John Calipari.
Meanwhile, The Commercial Appeal reported Memphis would approach Scott Drew of Baylor.
• Butler coach Brad Stevens agreed to a contract extension through the 2015-16 season.
Nadal upset by del Potro
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Juan Martin del Potro, a 20-year-old Argentine, upset top-ranked Rafael Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) in the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open.
In an upset among the women, Victoria Azarenka ousted Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to earn a berth in Saturday’s final against Serena Williams, who defeated older sister Venus 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to even their rivalry at 10 matches apiece.
Lincicome leads Kraft Nabisco
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Brittany Lincicome fired a 6-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Ji Young Oh, Angela Stanford and Brittany Lang after the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Defending champion Lorena Ochoa struggled to a 73.
• The first round of the Shell Houston Open in Humble, Texas, was suspended because of high wind with only half the 144-player field on the course. The round will resume this morning.
• Ross McGowan equaled his lowest European Tour score, shooting a 7-under 64 to lead the first round of the Estoril Open by two shots over Michael Hoey in Cascais, Portugal.

Former Portland Trail Blazers star Maurice Lucas has undergone surgery for bladder cancer. The team said Lucas, 57, will need six to eight weeks to recover.
• Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right wrist today and will miss the last five games of the season.

• Two-time defending champion United States will play Honduras, Haiti and Grenada in the first round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Americans open against Grenada on July 4.
