MONTROSE, Colo.—Fort Carson officials will be taking possession of a grenade that an Olathe man found in his shed.
The Montrose County sheriff’s office says 43-year-old Kent Thompson was cleaning his shed on Thursday when he noticed a rag on the shelf. He unwrapped it and discovered he was holding a grenade, described as a pineapple-style fragmentation device.
Thompson placed the grenade on the hood of a car and called the sheriff’s department.
The Grand Junction bomb squad took possession of the device and planned to turn it over to officials with the Fort Carson Army base south of Colorado Springs on Friday.
No injuries were reported, and there was no word on how the grenade ended up in the man’s shed.
