FORT CARSON, Colo.—A dozen AH-64 Apache Longbow attack helicopters are arriving in Colorado for a unit being transferred to Fort Carson.
The helicopters are scheduled to arrive at Fort Carson Monday from South Korea, where the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion of the 2nd Aviation Regiment was previously stationed.
The Army has said the battalion will have 24 helicopters total and about 500 soldiers. The transfer to Fort Carson was announced in November.
Boeing Corp., which builds the Apache Longbow, says the helicopters can carry laser-guided precision missiles, 70mm rockets and a 30mm automatic cannon. They can cruise at up to 284 mph.
