BOULDER — Micro Motion Inc. requested police presence this morning because it was telling 37 of its 530 employees they were being laid off, according to a company spokesman.
Dave Baldridge, a spokesman for the Emerson Process Management division, said initial reports that the company was having major layoffs were “exaggerated.”
“They’re in the process of telling these employees,” Baldridge said just after 1 p.m. “The police were notified as a courtesy, because we knew there would be workforce reductions announced today.”
There have been no reports of problems because of the announcement, according to police officials.
Micro Motion this afternoon issued a written statement about the layoffs, stating:
“Due to declining business conditions, Micro Motion today announced workforce reductions at its Boulder, CO operations. About 37 employees were affected by this announcement, mostly salaried. This difficult business decision is no reflection on these employees, who have served our customers and the company well over the years. The declining economy and softening market for our flow meters used in the oil and gas, chemical and food and beverage industries resulted in changes in our operations that were necessary to keep competitive in this challenging business environment.”
Micro Motion manufactures an extensive line of Coriolis products which includes sensors for measuring hazardous and corrosive materials, high-temperature fluids and sanitary products.
Micro Motion has a 170,000 square-foot headquarters in Gunbarrel.
