BOULDER, Colo.—A former Boulder Community Hospital nurse accused of stealing pain medication meant for surgical patients has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Twenty-seven-year-old Ashton Paul Daigle of Lafayette faces 174 charges on accusations that he stole numerous doses of the drug fentanyl between Sept. 24 and Oct. 24.
Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said Tuesday that Daigle has filed a notice in federal court in Denver that he plans to change his not guilty plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors. He declined to discuss the terms but said details would be made public at a June 1 hearing.
Authorities say Daigle told them in a taped interview that he sometimes used dirty needles to replace patients’ fentanyl with a saline solution. He has since tested negative for HIV and hepatitis.
