Fashioning baskets from telephone wire rather than natural fibers might not be the norm, but it’s an example of how some people are practicing crafts around the world. See such pieces as Zulu wire weaving, left, and dozens of others in “World Threads: Preserving Fiber Traditions,” an exhibit of traditional textiles, basketry and beadwork from developing countries in Africa, South and Central America and Southeast Asia at TACtile Textile Arts Center, 7777 E. Hampden Ave., Unit 114. The exhibit and sale, on view through May 2, also showcases regional nonprofits that support developing countries.
