BOULDER, Colo.—Police say a man showing his new gun to a friend accidentally shot him in his hand and leg.

Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says 58-year-old Lewis Guthrie’s home won’t face charges for shooting Kevin O’Connor, 44. Huntley says the shooting happened at Guthrie’s basement after dinner Thursday night.

Huntley says Guthrie was holding the 9 mm pistol and was unaware that O’Connor had put bullets in it.

Police say Guthrie’s wife was upstairs and called 911 after hearing a loud bang from the basement. O’Connor’s injuries were not serious.
