A Mesa State College student was killed and three others were injured Saturday afternoon in a rollover crash when the vehicle blew a tire on Interstate 70 near Gypsum, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The driver, Enrique Gutierrez Jr., 19, of Mancos, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two backseat passengers, Nicholas Ludwig, 19, of Berthoud, and Kathryn A. Ball, 20, of Evergreen, were injured when they were thrown from the vehicle as it rolled two and a half times into the median. Corrigan Conroy, 20, of Grand Junction, received minor injuries. They were taken to Vail Valley Medical Center.

Troopers said the tire’s age is suspected to be a factor in its failure.
