Celebrants at Red Rocks this morning for the sunrise service had damp conditions and little sun, but that didn’t deter thousands from heading to the natural amphitheater.

The sun technically was up at 6:27 a.m., and the Easter service sponsored by the Colorado Council of Churches went on as planned.

The service was free, although attendees were asked to bring nonperishable food items, and an offering was collected to offset costs.

Forecasters predict a high of only 51 degrees in Denver today and a 60 percent chance of showers. Winds could reach up to 24 mph.

For the foothills above 6,000 feet, 3 to 6 inches of new snow is possible by late tonight, while Monument Hill might get 4 to 8 inches before skies clear early Monday. Temperatures should be mild enough that roads stay wet rather than snowpacked or icy.
