LOS ANGELES — DirecTV was sued by the U.S. Justice Department for violating telemarketing rules by hiring a company to call people who didn’t want to receive sales calls.
The prerecorded messages told people who received the calls that because they were on DirecTV’s do-not-call list, they weren’t receiving “exciting offers” and instructed the recipients to remove their number from the do-not-call list, Justice Department lawyers said in a complaint filed Wednesday in Los Angeles.
