COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—U.S. pairs figure skating champion Rockne Brubaker is hoping to return to the ice in early May after hernia surgery.
Brubaker had surgery April 3 to repair tears in the muscles of the lower abdomen. Recovery is four to six weeks, and he expects to resume training around May 1.
Brubaker says he first noticed the injury last fall. Teamed with Keauna McLaughlin, they won their second straight U.S. title this year.
They struggled at their first world championships, finishing 11th. But they qualified to represent the United States at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
