The loss of starting cornerback Reggie Rembert to suspension for breaking unnamed rules at Air Force continued what has been a difficult spring for football coach Troy Calhoun.
Academy officials would not provide details of Rembert’s problems other than to say the suspension was indefinite. David Cannon, the academy’s public affairs officer, said he could not comment about whether Rembert’s suspension would end in time to play this fall.
Cannon said Rembert could practice while on suspension but could not take part in activities that would require him to represent the academy.
“Our No. 1 concern always is about our cadets,” Cannon said. “In every case, we want our cadets to have every opportunity to succeed.”
Cannon said the assignments in academics, the military and personal character are the foundations of the academy’s purpose.
Rembert’s suspension followed a spring practice in which several players, including freshman starting quarterback Tim Jefferson, didn’t take part in all the practices in order to improve their grades. Jefferson said he was involved in only five practices.
Neither Calhoun nor athletic director Hans Mueh would comment.
