Weld County sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine whether a bomb threat received in a mailed letter is credible.

The Sheriff’s Department received the two-page letter Wednesday threatening to place bombs in Greeley on April 20 if the jail did not release immigrants being held for deportation.

“Without knowing the person involved, and until we can locate and interview that party, we’re not going to know what their full intent is,” said Weld County under-sheriff Margie Martinez.

Though April 20 is the anniversary of the Columbine shootings, which were linked to Adolf Hitler’s birthday, Martinez said the letter made no mention of the significance of the date.

The letter, hand-written in Spanish, mentioned judges and law enforcement officials.

The jail currently holding 58 inmates for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
