OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — It’s not unusual for Oscar Nolasco to spend a morning watching television on the couch since his employer reduced his hours. But he was needed at the factory Friday, so he caught the morning traffic report and headed off.
His job might have saved his life.
Hours after Nolasco left for work, a small airplane dived into his house, slicing the home down the middle into two charred pieces.
“Logically, now I have to thank God I have my life,” said Nolasco, whose nephew also lives at the house and left shortly before the crash about 11:20 a.m.
The only person aboard the plane, pilot Cecil Murray, 80, was killed in the crash, which happened shortly after he took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport a mile from the house.
