OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — A small plane sputtered and dived into a house after taking off from a local airport Friday morning, slicing the home down the middle into two charred pieces and killing the pilot.
The plane, thought to be a twin-engine Cessna 421, crashed about 11:20 a.m., and the house burst into flames. The owner’s nephew left moments before the aircraft hit.
“For now, it’s a bit difficult to explain how I feel,” said Oscar Nolasco, 52, who has lived in the home for nearly 20 years. “Everything is gone.”
Pilot Cecil Murray of Tamarac, Fla., died in the crash, said Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti. He was the only person aboard.
Rick Cunningham, 52, who was painting a house, said he saw the plane coming in sideways, and it nose-dived into the ground.
